The primary role of the Senior Director of International Trade is to develop, manage and grow the programs of WTCLA and LAEDC, represent WTCLA at domestic and international events, and provide business assistance services to help attract foreign investment to Los Angeles County. The Senior Director will interface with all levels of LAEDC personnel, the WTCLA Board of Advisors, LAEDC member firms and larger external business, governmental, academic, non-profit and philanthropic communities. The Senior Director will ensure all activities support the WTC/LAEDC's mission and goals.

  • Spearhead WTCLA/LAEDC programs and projects, including programs with partner organizations, consulates, city/county agencies/offices, and international companies and governments. Serve as an external representative of WTCLA/LAEDC to the WTCLA Board of Advisors, relevant international partners, industry leaders, public officials, governmental representatives, educational institutions, business/industry associations and community members. Represent WTCLA through Public speaking opportunities to engage small groups or large audiences in discussions related to international trade, FDI, and global partnerships to advance WTC/LAEDC's mission..
  • Manage WTCLA performance achievements, revenue goals and programmatic outcomes,.
  • Direct the development and provide oversight of funding/grant sources, departmental financial planning and outcomes, staff development, fundraising, events, and programmatic KPIs.
  • Oversee the Select LA event conference, serving as point of contact and event developer , including content development and speaker acquisition.
  • Develop and Implement the annual foreign direct investment report.
  • Guide and organize mission trips and delegations to and from foreign countries.
  • Identify foreign direct investment (FDI) prospects and management of FDI projects to meet WTCLA annual investment goals.
  • Maintain website/social media content, program development for domestic and international partners, client services, correspondence, and contact CRM databases.
  • Report compliance of all activities, including, but not limited to, individual company contact data, interaction with other agencies, service providers, and required communication with units of government.
  • Demonstrate good stewardship of people, resources, and projects, including workflow to accomplish objectives, employee training, and foster a stimulating team environment that facilitates collaboration, learning and a culture of professional performance.
  • Provide organizational leadership to support the interdepartmental collaboration and programs.
  • Provide support for team projects, grants, and presentations as assigned.
  • Ensure all activities support the WTCLA and LAEDC's mission and goals.

Education/Experience: Master's degree from four-year college or university; or five to ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Internet software and Contact Management systems.

Work Environment:

The work environment is currently "work from home" status, due to a health order mandate from the County of Los Angeles, using home internet. When the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 is finished and it is deemed safe to return to the office, the position will be placed at the LAEDC office in DTLA.
